Consultation and Training
The Employee Assistance Center understands that the workplace is an ever changing and evolving entity. In order to assist supervisors and employees to gain workplace management and personal coping skills, our staff will consult with you to meet your training goals and objectives. This results in a positive effect in the workplace and helps employees achieve their personal best.
To register for a regional training session, contact Beth Wisneski at or 616.975.3575 x129. Regional training is FREE of charge to employees (and their family members) who participate in an employee assistance program with EAC.

Addressing Performance
This program is for managers and frontline supervisors. The emphasis is on confronting and coaching people with poor performance. We give the manager skills to work with and help people through life issues. We build a step-by-step process for managers to work with their human resources department, the EAC and the person, to achieve success in whatever issue an employee may be experiencing. (pdf outline)

College Prep 101
The college admissions process can be an overwhelming experience for many families. EAC’s new training program addresses the many questions that families have regarding college admissions by providing general information about high school courses to take, standardized tests, the financial aid process, and the actual application process. College admissions hasn’t gotten any easier, but with the right tools, information, and assistance, it can be much easier to find the right college fit.

Conflict Management
The Conflict Management session is designed to help employees and managers develop and utilize assertive, construction communication with other employees. The participants will review six types of conflict and identify alternative approaches to resolving conflicts in the workplace. The session is interactive with case studies, profile reports and a resolution card to remind the participants of the approaches they discussed in the training session. (pdf outline)

Coping with Change
The managing change seminar helps participants understand the change experience. There are six distinct steps that each of us experiences in the change process. We will outline each of the six steps and put some application and understanding to each phase. You'll walk away with steps to prepare for change in your organization and learn how to manage the change and communication in your area of work. (pdf outline)

Coping with Divorce
The Coping with Dicorve training focuses on those dealing with their own divorce or the divorce of a family member or friend.This training reviews the 7 stages of change and the natural human emotions that we experience whenever a major change like divorce occurs. This training also reviews the steps that are necessary to assess the situation and to determine the options that are available to impact the situation—especially what can be done to positively impact ourselves and those around us.

Dealing with Difficult People
Our most requested program. The emphasis is on helping managers work with people who are creating difficult work situations. We review the skills necessary for managers to deal with issues immediately. We also give the managers the skills to confront and challenge people in a positive and supportive approach. (pdf outline)

What happens when you hear the words, “Mom or dad can’t live at home anymore.” What is your next step? Where do you start to search? How much is it going to cost? What type of care should you ask for? Are there senior living options available where your loved one lives? Find answers to these questions and more at this regional training featuring PathFinder Senior Services, an elder care referral services that is offered free to employees served by the Employee Assistance Center.

Financial Management
In today’s challenging economic climate, many employees are struggling with their finances. Participants in this workshop will learn important budgeting principles. We partner with Green Path Financial Services to provide practical information and helpful tools for managing money. (pdf outline)

Harassment, Sexual and Otherwise
The harassment program can be for managers or team members. The program focuses on the importance of understanding the ramifications of harassment, sexual or otherwise in the workplace. We give participants a quiz to review their understanding of the key laws we review in the program. How Stress Affects Eating
Do you ever find yourself craving rich foods when you are stressed? Or do you experience the opposite and have no appetite at all? Either way, it’s clear that stress can affect our eating patterns in many ways. This program will be presented by Better Life Unlimited and will discuss the body’s response to stress and how it relates to eating and will address strategies about making good food choices, especially in a hurried and stressful environment.

Road Rage: Adjusting Your Attitude/Managing Your Behavior
The goals of this new training include: (1) understanding the causes of road rage, (2) assessing your individual driving style, and (3) learning how to avoid becoming a victim of, or contributing to, road rage. You will analyze what sets you off while driving, what gets you tense, and what gets you angry. In addition, you will learn how to adjust your attitude and respond to trigger behaviors so you can continue to drive responsibly regardless of what others are doing on the road.

Smoking Cessation
This smoking cessation series is based upon the American Cancer Society’s Freshstart Program. This four-session program is designed to help participants stop smoking by providing them with all of the essential information and strategies they need to support their efforts to quit. The program focuses on an active, pragmatic approach to quitting smoking and consists of four one-hour sessions over a period of four weeks. Participants are expected to pick a "quit date" no later than the third session.

Surviving the Teen Years
In this new training, you will: (1) learn about “normal” adolescent behavior, (2) learn how to handle typical teenage rebellion, (3) learn effective communication and parenting techniques, and (4) learn to identify the warning signs for adolescent depression and substance abuse. The teen years are a difficult time for any parent. While no training can make these years “easy,” this workshop offers tools and insights that can help you and your teenager(s) “weather the storm.”

Weight Loss/Lifestyle Management
This weight loss/lifestyle change system is a 30-day program that teaches participants how to lose weight through balanced nutrition, fitness, motivation, and tips. Better Life Unlimited is offering this program to EAC companies that are interested in sponsoring on-site, “kick-off” meetings for their employees and family members. The cost of the program is $25.00 for each participating employee — all or part of which can be the responsibility of the employee. Compared to most weight loss programs, this price is a real bargain! These sessions are strictly informational. There is no cost associated with attending.

Winter Blues
Ever notice how a grey, gloomy day can make you feel tired and depressed, but a sunny day can leave you feeling cheerful and energized? Well, there is a scientific reason for this caused by insufficient exposure to sunlight. Because there are so many grey, gloomy days in the late winter/early spring, the Employee Assistance Center is offering this regional training to help employees develop useful strategies to overcome these common symptoms. Work/Life Balance
The Work/Life Balance program is new for 2006. It is commonly believed that a healthy, balanced employee is a productive employee. This program is for supervisors and employees. Participants will learn strategies for combining career and personal life goals, understanding time management and prioritizing, and learning about resources that are available to help attain balance.
